“Family Art Activity: The Golden Record”
This family art homework assignment was inspired by Rooftop’s 2009-2010 study, “Art Is… Innovation,” and the collages of great American innovator Louis Armstrong. Families were invited to create their own collage of images representing their family traditions and stories onto paper album sleeves. The family collages were collected and displayed in a multimedia community art installation – a listening booth, sharing the best of family traditions passed on to future generations.
“The Golden Record” was installed at the de Young Museum for SFUSD’s 2010 Young at Art Festival.
